Now is the Time to Lean into the Hard Questions

This is a time of hard questions--we’re facing them all the time.

And those hard questions are just getting increasingly louder as we begin to settle into this new state of being, what some call that new or next normal.

Some of these hard questions are about the “what”--the strategy or path to choose. So many more are about the “how”--how do we engage successfully as individuals, teams, leaders, as an organization, in ways that are anticipatory, agile, and clear-headed?

  • How will you hold on to key artifacts of the past two years that signaled growth and improvement? How will you stay alive to these new, improved parts of yourself, your teams, and your work?

  • How will you re-introduce healthy risk into strategy and process, when risk aversion has become a way of life?

  • How will you let go of all that it is time to let go of (it seems easier said than done!)?

  • How might old habits be sneaking back in as our brains try to go back to something that once felt normal?

  • How will you show up for your colleagues, to support and showcase their work?

  • How are you called to lead the people in your leadership care right now? What can they expect from you? What do you expect from them? How are those expectations shared and clarified?

  • How will you identify your learning edge and actively address it?

What are the hardest questions you’re facing right now?

Go deep; mine the possibilities of your most fresh thinking. How will you answer these questions in a new way, with a mindset that reflects the artifacts you want to hold onto from the past few years?

There are always reasons to put off this kind of deeper thinking--this transformative reflection.

There is always more pressing work in the moment (and if there’s not, we all know how to generate it!).

Lean into the hard questions. It’s the work that will free you up to be clear, precise, and agile with your teams.
