Earlier this month, Julie Bush spoke at the Capital Region ATD and Capital Region Human Resource Association (CRHRA) Annual Conference. Her session, “Ways of Working Reset: Team Norms That Meet the Moment,” centered on a question we hear across leadership teams:
How do we align and realign as pace, priorities, and people change?
As responsibilities shift, new people join, and the pace of work accelerates, teams need opportunities to step back and intentionally reconsider how they work together.
During the session, Julie shared a process she uses with leadership teams to help them move from operating by default to operating by design. Participants considered the norms that enable teams to make decisions, coordinate work, share information, navigate tension, and realign as circumstances change.
Effective team norms are not static rules. They are shared commitments designed around a team’s current needs, priorities, and environment. When those conditions change, the team’s ways of working may need to change with them.
Thank you to Capital Region ATD, CRHRA, and everyone who joined the session and contributed to the conversation.
